Herb Plant, Fernleaf Dill

  • Image 1

Product Description

A showy and tasty herb that also attracts butterflies....

Open Pollinated. Heirloom. Annual, but readily self sows. Fernleaf dill is shorter and more compact than regular dill, plus slower to bolt, so you will have an extended leaf harvest time. You can grow it in the middle or back of a border (It grows 2' high by 2' wide). The wispy, grey-green foliage makes a wonderful background, and the yellow umbel flowers are quite showy and attract butterflies. Both the foliage and the seeds are used extensively in the kitchen. The fresh or dried leaf is good with fish, veggies, eggs, rice, breads, etc. The seeds are used to flavor pickles. Dill will die back in the heat of summer, but self sows readily, so be sure to let some mature seeds drop so you will have a perpetual dill patch. It generally grows best in the spring and fall. Bees and other beneficial insects are attracted to the blossoms.
